In a busy and fast paced work environment everyone is rushing around and keeping busy which may mean people with chronic illnesses struggle to keep up. This is due not only to the symptoms that might come with the illness such as fatigue and pain but the limitations on how much energy you have to spend in the day. That is why it is essential to take care of yourself.
Reevaluate how you are working
People with chronic illness are great innovators. Try evaluating how your work is impacting you and your chronic condition. Really think hard about whether this work is doing you good.
Manage your illness
If you are in the right employment for you at this time, consider ways to make it easier to work. Drop self-care activities that aren’t right for you and ensure that you are doing ones that are. Take your medication, be good to your mental health. Find the right accommodations for your body.
Find your tribe at work
It’s important to have a support network at work. It might be in your building or in your field but finding others who experience diversity is essential. And look for a healthy workplace initiative which might offer supports.
